heavyd asked: I am debating between a low-voltage malibu light system and solar-powered for my backyard. I heard the solar-system is easy to install, cheap but the lights are very weak. My backyard is already pre-wired to use the low voltage system but I am not sure how much it would add to my electric bill. What’s your opinion?

Rob asked: I just put in some low voltage landscape lighting and a few of the fixtures are about 3 feet from the edge of my inground pool. The instructions say not to have any fixtures within 10 feet from the pool “for maximum safety”.
I thought low voltage lighting was completely safe. Why shouldn’t I have fixtures within 10 feet from the pool edge?

me asked: I’ve been thinking seriously for a while now about taking classes, or working toward a degree, in Landscape or Garden Design. I found this one, which suits my budget and current time limitations (just had a baby) but don’t want to do it if it’ll only get me laughed at when I start looking for work in the field. I’d be happy starting out anywhere from a garden supply store/greenhouse/nursery, or at a landscape design company.

Some guy asked: I’m planning on building a stone retaining wall to provide a level area for a plant bed. I’ve read that it is good to have gravel under the stone wall and also behind it to aid in drainage.
The thing I’m not sure about is what type or size of gravel to use.
Can anyone help?

bjornorama asked: I would like to build a dry stack retaining wall out of natural stone. Really, it would be 2 walls… one 3 ft, one 2 ft. about 50 feet long. I don’t know what sort of stone I should be looking at or how much that stone would cost. Love some help.
